Do alloy wheels make a car noisier?

Would a Hyundai i20 be less noisy if it had steel wheels instead of alloys? Just wondering as the Classic version comes with steel and the deluxe version has alloys.

Our answer:

Hi Anne,

It depends on the tyres fitted to the alloy wheels than the wheels themselves mostly. In general, the alloy wheels are taller in diameter and wider, necessitating the fitment of wider tyres that are also lower in profile (less rubber between the wheel and the road). This can lead to more road noise for sure.
