Did we get the wrong engine?

Did we get the wrong engine?

I have just bought a 1.6 Zetec S-Max and like it but after reading all the reviews I think I should have done more research and got a 2.0-litre instead! It's a 2011 model and we plan on keeping it for five years. Do you think it will have a bad resale value due to its 1.6 engine?

Thanks

Our answer:

Hi James,

No, it should be fine from a retained value point of view. In fact, given that it has lower CO2 and therefore road tax I'd say it should hang on to its value slightly better than the 2.0. All you're sacrificing is a bit of straight line grunt.

Just with that engine make sure the oil is fully changed once a year and use the highest grade possible. Also beware of weak water pumps and exhaust gas recirculation valves - but keeping it properly serviced should see you right.
