Hello! I have two questions please! 1. How many miles on a full tank of fuel can I get on my 2011 1.4L VW Polo. I do a mix of motorway driving and driving around town. 2. How can you tell how many miles exactly are left in the tank? I heard this mentioned yesterday where people were quoting an exact number of miles they have left. (Sorry, I’m not very technical! Thanks so much for your help! Kind regards Karen Booth
Hi Karen,
Assuming it's the 86hp 1.4-litre petrol engine, its official fuel consumption figure is 5.9 litres/100km, though we'd expect perhaps 7.5 litres/100km in the type of driving you've described. It has a 45-litre fuel tank, so that means approximately 600km on a tank.
Some cars, as well as a traditional fuel gauge, display the distance to empty. That's probably what is being referred to by the people you mentioned. Of course, if you keep a close eye on things, you can probably get quite good at estimating how far your own car will go on what's showing on the fuel gauge.
