Could the Audi Q7 be a crew cab?

Could the Audi Q7 be a crew cab?

Can I convert an Audi Q7 from commercial to crew cab?

Our answer:

Hi Mike,

It's complicated. In theory, yes - just rip out the third row of seats, bolt in a floor and lashing points and away you go.

It's never that easy of course. To qualify for commercial rate tax the load bay on a crew cab has to account for at least 30% of the wheelbase and have an opening aperture of at least 800mm in height. Without breaking out the tape measure and breaking into an Audi dealer I'm not certain that the Q7 qualifies on both fronts.

Besides, you have to tread very carefully when it comes to the tax side of things. The primary benefit to such conversions is when the car is new, allowing it to qualify for the 13.3% VRT commercial rate and knocking a good bit off its price - hence cars like the Mitsubishi Pajero Executive and Land Rover Discovery Business. It sounds like you're talking about converting a used car, in which case you've already missed that boat.

The second benefit then is in terms of motor tax, which is indeed much cheaper than passenger car motor tax. But beware - you have to be able to demonstrate that you actually need such a vehicle for your work and are using it for such. That's easy if you're a plumber, somewhat less so if you're in IT, so make sure you do your homework first.
