Could my tyres be causing the road noise?

Hi , I have a Kia Ceed 1•4 diesel car. It's 131.. The road noise is very annoying, is it in all cars or could it be the tyres? Thanks

Our answer:

Hi Linda,

Obviously it's impossible for us to really check this out for you from afar, but yes, in general, tyres do have a massive effect on road noise. Different brands and even tyre models from the same brands all have varying noise levels. In fact, these days, they all publish information on that so you can compare them before you fit them to your car. Another issue some have is with extra noise generated by low-profile tyres fitted to larger alloy wheels. For comfort and refinement, in general, it's best to fit smaller wheels and high-profile tyres.

One final note on that, it's very important to have the correct pressure in your tyres, as that too can affect the noise - and of course, safety.
