Could I get insured on a MINI?

I have my full licence for 2 years and in that time have been a names driver on my fathers car. If I wanted to buy my own car I was wondering what would be the cheapest car to insure? And how expensive it is to be insured on a Mini. thanks you.

Our answer:

Hi Aoife,

A MINI, even the basic MINI One, will likely be quite pricey to insure. It’s regarded by most Irish insurers (in their benevolent, charitable way…) as a sporty car, so they tend to load it more than an equivalent hatchback. A 1.2-litre MINI One might be just about affordable, but you’ll have to shop around and they’ve only been in production since 2014 (previous MINI Ones used a 1.4 engine) so they’re scarce. I’m afraid your best bet is something small with a 1.0-litre engine, so think Micra, think Corsa, think Volkswagen up!, SEAT Mii or Skoda Citigo, think Suzuki Alto…
