Hi I'm looking at two cars to bring in but struggling to get total cost to put on irish plates. 09 mk rs focus 50k on clock. 09 r35 gtr 42k on clock Any help would be appreciated
Hi Niall,
The biggest challenge you have in estimating the costs is guessing what Open Market Selling Price (OMSP) Revenue will say the cars are worth. That's difficult especially with rare cars such as those.
Either way, the VRT will be in the highest band for each, so that's 41 per cent of the OMSP in each case.
You'll have to pay the NOx levy on top, but that maxes out at €600 on a petrol car.
And you've not said where you're bringing the cars from, but if it's Wales, Scotland or England (or anywhere else outside the EU) then you'll have to pay VAT and customs duty as well. Customs/import duty is 10 per cent of the price paid for the car added to the cost of shipping it to Ireland. VAT is 23 per cent of the price paid for the car added to the cost of shipping and insurance added to the customs duty.
