Cost to import a Panamera?

Hi, The Revenue VRT Calculator does not provide a VRT estimate for importing Porsche Panamera Hybrid cars. Can you tell me the cost of importing either of the following 1. 2014 Porsche Panamera 3.0 E-Hybrid V6 S Tiptronic S 5dr 2. 2011 Porsche Panamera 3.0 V6 S Hybrid Both have covered approximately 90k miles. Thanks Aidan

Our answer:

Hi Aidan,

It's very difficult to get an accurate number from Revenue ahead of time, especially when the car in question is not very common, as is the case here. The challenge for us (and more so you, obviously) is determining what Open Market Selling Price (OMSP) Revenue will attach to these cars. So, on that basis, take the below as a very very rough estimate and nothing more.

1 - The 2014 model, as far as we can tell, emitted 71g/km of CO2 on the NEDC, with NOx of 12mg/km. That CO2 figure will be 'uplifted' by Revenue to 100g/km, meaning 12 per cent VRT. The NOx levy is only €60. If that's worth €45,000 according to Revenue, then the VRT is €5,400.

2 - The 2011 model, as far as we can tell, emitted 167g/km of CO2 on the NEDC (unless it was fitted originally with the low rolling resistance tyres, bringing the CO2 down to 159g/km). That CO2 figure will be 'uplifted' by Revenue to 189g/km (or 181g/km), meaning 31 per cent VRT. If that's worth €35,000 according to Revenue, then the VRT is €10,850. We can't find a NOx figure for this car, but it will be much higher than for the 2014 model. The maximum it can be for a petrol car is €600.

Incidentally, the above numbers are based on the assumption that the registration will be after 1 January 2021, as the VRT bands, NOx levy, etc. change at that time and you'll be lucky to get a car imported and registered now before then.
