It's a tough call as both are very good cars, but I think our decision would come down on the side of the Toyota, especially if your budget stretches to the later 1.33-litre engine. Both that and the older 1.4 are more powerful and more economical than the Skoda 1.4 so the Toyota is the one to go for.
