Can you recommend a quiet car?

Im looking to buy a car that has very low noise levels in the cabin really quiet! can you recommend one. thanks budget is around 16,000

Hi Paul,

Well, according to testing done in Germany, the quietest cars are the most expensive ones. Hardly surprising really, but the likes of the BMW 7 Series, Jaguar XJ and Audi A8 topped the table. The good news, if you’re really keen on silence, is that those cars get cheap to buy (if not to run) very quickly so a four- or five-year-old example can be temptingly affordable. However, if you’re in the market for something a little more affordable, then the best performing ‘normal’ cars in the test were the Volkswagen Sharan, Audi A4, Citroen C5, Ford Galaxy, Volkswagen Touran, Tiguan and Polo and Mercedes-Benz C 180.

Remember that it’s generally not engine noise but wind and tyre roar that contribute most to noise in the cabin, so if you’ve got a noisy car now, it can be worth having a look at changing your tyres (all new tyres come with drive-by noise labelling now) and having your door and window seals inspected.
