Can my husband drive an old car with no insurance?

My husband arrived in ireland since 6 months,he buy a old car with NCT and tax but not having insurance ,he tried to get insurance by contacting some agents, but they are refused to give a insurance to old car, and they advised he will get an insurance only after getting irish driving license,he is preparing for the learners exam now, does he can drive the car at the moment, would you please reply Thanks in advance Arya

Our answer:

Hi Arya,

Depending on the country your husband's licence was issued in, it's possible that he could use it for up to 12 months in Ireland without having to get an Irish licence. However, your husband cannot drive on the public road in Ireland without valid insurance.
