Can I use my smartphone apps via the car?
Is there new technology where by a smartphone can be used in conjunction with the already built in car touch screen display (already used for the radio and Bluetooth phone display) so that the motorist can have satnav navigation charts via their smartphone?

Yes, but it's a bit rare so far. Most new Citroens and Peugeots and a good few Opels too have a system called MirrorLink, which, theoretically, allows you to use your phone's apps through the car. Likewise Honda has a new Android-based system and Apple's CarPlay is about to make its on-sale debut in the Volvo XC90.
Now, as to quite how well any of these work...
