Can I privately tax a CV?
Hi Shane, I'm looking at purchasing a commerical four seater 2015 Ford Kuga Zeneca 120bhp 2 litre from a business owner i know for private use. Can i tax it as a four seater (no 5th seatbelt in middle back seat) private use with Tax office or are there any other conditions involved?

Hi Stephen,
Yes, you can tax pretty much any commercial vehicle as a private car, but the odd thing is that you may need to then tax the vehicle on the old engine capacity tax system, rather than the current CO2-based system. Best thing is to ring your local motor tax office (list here: http://www.housing.gov.ie/local-government/motor-tax/motor-tax-offices/motor-tax-offices) and double-check before you leap. It’s not a consistently-applied thing, so best to ask first.
