Hi, Is it (a)possible and (b)safe to lower my 1.5dci engine's idle speed below its default 800RPM so I can handle my Duster better on rough terrain withot frying the clutch? Thanks!
Hi Cobe,
It would only be safely possible to do by remapping the ECU, but even then, it's not advisable. Car makers usually choose as low an idle as they feel they can (to save fuel) without negatively affecting the refinement. Go too low and it might mean a lot more vibration in the engine, which could have a knock-on effect in terms of reliability.
