Can I get a decent TT for a low price?

Can I get a decent TT for a low price?

I am thinking of buying an Audi TT, but my budget is only €5-6k. Is this price range good to get a second hand TT that would be reliable? What are the problems that I should look out for?

Thanks for any advice you can give

Our answer:

Hi Anita,

You’re going to have to shop very, very carefully at that kind of price level. For a start, not many TTs will be that cheap yet, and those that are will have mega-miles and possibly sketchy service histories. You really need to get a car with a full history when buying something like this, and avoid anything that shows obvious signs of abuse, or anything with a nasty body kit or non-factory fit modifications.

Check to make sure all the instruments work properly, as this is a common TT fault point. Listen for knocking from the suspension that would most likely be loose or worn anti-roll-bar bushes. If the car doesn’t have electronic stability control fitted, ask why – all early TTs were retro-fitted with ESC after a spate of accidents.

The engines are reasonably rugged but if it feels hesitant or down on power, it’s most likely the fault of a dodgy air mass sensor.
