hi.. i want to buy a suv toyota rav 4 or x trail or pathfinder but all seem to have 7 seats which i don't need..have seen ads for crewcab convetions which allow you tochange the tax bracket to commerical because they are removing two seats and changing it to a 5 seater is this legal and how would this effect insurance as the car would be modifed
Hi Paul,
Neither the RAV4 or X-Trail ever came as a seven seater. I would think that both would have boots too small to allow them to be converted to a commercial as well, so I’d ignore that option. A Nissan Pathfinder is essentially a commercial – it’s based on the Navara pickup – so if you want a commercial you’d be better off buying a Navara with a load-bed cover than trying to back-convert a Pathfinder. Incidentally, it’s important to note that if you’re converting a car to a commercial, or taxing an existing commercial, you can only drive it and use it for work purposes. If you’re also using it for personal errands, or dropping off the kids at school, then it must be taxed as a passenger car or you’ll face a fine of up to €4,000.
