Can I buy this Northern car without paying VAT?

I am looking to buy a Hybrid from a northern Irish dealer. The car has been imported from England and us on English plates. What do I need from the dealer to avoid paying vat on top if the vrt? How can the dealer get me whats needed? Thanks a million

Our answer:

Hi Conor,

Unless the dealer has imported the car properly into the North according to the Windsor Framework rules, or it was in use in the North by a private owner before the dealer took hold of it, then it is highly likely that you would have to pay VAT and import duty on this car. Talk this through with the dealer before you commit to buying the car.
