Hi team, I have recently moved to Ireland for my new job role and I am currently in the midst of a process to get an Irish driving license. I also have my Indian Driving license which I was issued back in 2012 and its valid until 2032 and I also have my Indian Driving license extract which can help me to get my permanent driving license here faster rather than waiting for 6 months. The only thing which I don’t have is International driving permit issued from India because I relocated from Singapore and I was not able to visit India due to covid. I wanted to know if I can still make a purchase of car right now or do I have to wait until I get my Irish license? I know that I can still drive for 12 months on my Indian license so I was thinking of buying a car first and then wait to get my Irish license. Is this possible?
Hi Sameer,
You don't technically need any licence to go out and buy a car so yes, you can go buy a car right away and, if your Indian licence is still valid here as you say, then there's no reason not to. Just make sure you get insurance quotes before you commit to any model, as that could be a challenge.
