I am selling my car - if someone is interested & pays for it on the spot can they drive it away immediately or do we have to wait until the vehicle ownership change is registered and the new owner has his own Vehicle Registration Certificate / the car is registered to his name? Thanks
Hi Tracy,
It depends on how they've paid for it. If it's cash, then there's no issue - fill out the change of ownership form and they can drive away while you stick it in the post.
If they've paid by cheque or bank draft, be a little more cautious. Make sure that the cheque or draft won't bounce before you hand over the keys. You can ring the buyer's bank to be certain.
