You've not told us what car you drive, so we can't tell you how common it is. It's not massively common in general and it's likely to be caused by the electrical sensor on the boot lid that tells the system if it's open. Take a look and see if you can work out where that is and if it is damaged. Failing that, bring the car to a good mechanic or auto-electrician.
