Best way to sell my SEAT Leon?

Seat Leon 2008 170000km what's the going price. The back door is badly marked. Would I better off trading into a garage? Sell it as it is or get it fixed an sell private.

Our answer:

Hi Stephen,

The going rate for a SEAT Leon of that era is about €2,500, especially with your sort of mileage on it. You’re going to have to knock a few hundred Euro off that if you want to sell it as is, or you fix the car and try and attain €2,500-€3,000 for it. As a trade-in, you’ll be offered less and on older cars with a relatively low value, you can find some garages might not want to take it in, but expect to be offered around €1,000 for it on part-exchange. The balance between ‘do I sell it myself?’ and ‘do I part-ex it to a garage?’ comes down solely to whether you want as much cash for your car as possible, or whether you want convenience. You get more money selling privately, but it’s more hassle; whereas you get a lower offer for part-ex, but it’s straightforward and you get to hand in your old car, then drive away in a new(er) one.
