A nice, easy one here – go for a Kia Sorento. You’ll be able to get the earliest examples of the current, third-generation model (launched in 2015), it comes with four-wheel drive and a lusty 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine (meaning, what with its size, it can tow heavy braked trailers – up to two tonnes as an auto and 2.5 tonnes as a manual) and it’s a seven-seat SUV, so it’s the very definition of practical. It should therefore have no trouble swallowing all your boating clobber while towing the vessel out back – and it’ll still be under the seven-year manufacturer warranty, as long as it hasn’t done more than 150,000km.
