Anything small, underpowered (preferably with an engine no bigger than 1.2 litres, due to Irish car insurance quirks) and cheap. This automatically invites you to look at city cars – vehicles like the Volkswagen Up/SEAT Mii/Skoda Citigo, Peugeot 108/Citroen C1/Toyota Aygo, the Opel Karl, Ford Ka+… and then the two best for you, the current Hyundai i10 or the Kia Picanto. Both have long warranties and both are rather good to drive, while they have 1.0-litre engine choices to keep the running costs low.
