There are three main fully electric new cars that fit your bill – the Nissan Leaf and the Renault Zoe, which are related to each other and share components, and the Volkswagen e-Golf. The VW is a little bit bigger than the other two and so would probably suit your needs better, although the claimed ranges of the Renault and Nissan (with the larger battery packs offered by each manufacturer) are greater than the e-Golf's, so if you need to do long distances you need to bear that fact in mind.

As an alternative, have a look at the BMW i3. It’s more of a city vehicle than the others and it’s reasonably expensive, but it does have a spacious cabin and fantastic driving manners.

Last, but certainly not least, are the Kia e-Niro and Hyundai Kona Electric - well worth a look.

Of course, you could join the waiting list for a Tesla Model 3, but you might be waiting a while for one of those…
