It’s hard to beat the E220 CDI (and we’re assuming it’s the ‘new’ 2010 E-Class you’re talking about, the one with the square headlights. The previous ‘round headlight’ model was a reliability nightmare, so are best avoided) as it’s smooth and comfortable, and very economical too. The engine gets a bit noisy, but they’re decently reliable. Just make sure you buy one with a full and complete service history, and check the car’s background with Cartell.ie as many get used as taxis. Also, don’t buy one with a manual gearbox — they’re impossible to sell on again. Oh, and get the estate if you can find one — massive inside and hugely useful.
