Belt or chain in my Audi A3?

Belt or chain in my Audi A3?

What is the interval of replacing timing belt in Audi A3 8P 2009. (2000 tfsi) The dealer told me there is no timing as it is a chain belt while the book indicate differently ..?!

Our answer:

Hi Perry,

I can see why the confusion, as there were examples of the 2009 Audi A3 2.0 TFSI engine that used timing chains and others with a timing belt. If it has the latter, then the interval is 180,000km regardless of time. The engine code starts with BWA. If it starts with a 'C' then it has a timing chain. Also, just to confuse things further, the BWA engine has a small chain joining the camshafts at the back of the engine as well as the timing belt at the front.
