You've not told us the model year and that's important. Up to the 2015 update, the A1's 1.4 TFSI engine used a timing chain and after it used a timing belt. However, the earlier model also came with a 1.4 TFSI "COD" engine that used a timing belt as well, so that confuses things. If you can find your engine number we can check for sure. Otherwise, the model year and power output might be enough to confirm it.
