Assuming this is one of the last of the "D-generation" Corsas (as a new one came out around then), almost all engines used timing chains. The exceptions were the turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol units and the 1.7-litre CDTi diesel.

If you want to be sure, let us know the engine fitted so we can look it up for you, and confirm whether it's the newer-shape model or not.
