There were three distinct 1.6-litre petrol engines in the Astra for 2013, so it depends which one it has. The regular 1.6 16-valve unit with 116hp has a timing belt. The more powerful SIDI Turbo engine from 2013 on (170hp or 200hp) uses a timing chain. Just to confuse things, that SIDI engine effectively replaced another 1.6-litre turbocharged unit (179hp), and that one had a timing belt.
