Average mileage on a set of tyres

Our answer:

Hi there,

It depends on the car, because obviously a bigger, heavier car will put more strain on its tyres than a lighter, smaller one. If we take the Central Statistics Office annual average milage as a given, which is 16,000km a year, and assume that you should really be replacing your tyres every four years on average, then that's 64,000km. In fact, we’d say that’s a little bit far, and you should probably go not much further than about 50,000km on a set, just for safety’s sake.
