Our answer:

Hi Sarah,

The official combined fuel economy figure for the 2011 Lexus RX 450h was 44.8mpg, or 6.3 litres per 100km. Now, that figure is going to vary hugely depending on how and where you drive the car. Hybrids are incredibly sensitive to driving style and general road conditions, so on average I’d expect it to do no better than around 30mpg. If you’re driving in town a lot, that should improve a bit, and you might just beat the 40mpg mark. It’s ideal for the sort of driving you’re talking about, generally, but it’ll take some time to get the best out of it as you have to learn its quirks and adapt your driving style to the car.
