At 35k km a year should I stick with diesel?

I travel 35000 kms per annum. with the current adverse publicity attaching to diesel should i go for a hybrid?

Our answer:

Hi Michael,

Potentially, yes. The fact that there was no movement on diesel tax in the Budget this week probably means that it’s safe enough to buy and run a diesel at least for now, but hybrids are becoming good enough that even high-mileage users should probably now be considering them. We’ve seen a real, day-to-day 60mpg from the current Toyota Prius, which included several long motorway runs, so that’s at least as good as any similarly-sized diesel, and well worth considering if you want to ‘future-proof’ yourself. Likewise, the Lexus IS 300h is generally pretty competitive with rival 2.0-litre diesel models from BMW and Audi when it comes to overall fuel economy, so again is well worth having a look at.
