Are these issues normal on a 141 Corsa?

I have a 141 opel corsa and the timing belt and gasket has just gone on me. Do u Think it's too soon to be going or in need of a change now ?

Our answer:

Hi Maryanne,

Do you mean the head gasket? It's quite strange for the timing belt and head gasket to go at the same time and also unusual for timing belts to snap if the proper maintenance schedule has been carried out. Do you mean, perhaps, that the head gasket has gone, maybe because of overheating due to a water pump problem and your mechanic has suggested you change the timing belt at the same time? That sounds more likely to me. However, back to whether we think it's a bit early for a 2014 car to suffer such problems: it is a little early, but you've not told us the mileage of the car, which of course will be a factor, and whether the car was properly serviced.
