Are old Discoverys trouble?

I am having trouble with my Landrover discovery 3 diesel —it’s 4 years old and has stopped dead on the road twice in the past2 months requiring recovery .the first time it was a park brake fault ( couldn’t get it into drive ) and the second time was brake pads / discs —both cost almost €1000 —are these cars bad news when they age a bit —I am hearing they look much tougher than they are —new name could be Landrover Recovery

Our answer:

Hi Cian,

I'm afraid you're already discovering that for yourself - Land Rovers have proven to be unreliable and expensive to maintain as they age. The Discovery 3 is a great car when it is working correctly, but we'd be wary of older ones with high mileage.
