Are diesal car tests going to get more and more difficult to pass /
Hi John,
Short answer? Yes. But that’s only in the future. Any current diesel car that you buy, as long as you keep it serviced and cared for, will pass its NCT because the test is always based on the standards the car was homologated to. So, if a car passes current Euro6 regulations, it will pass its NCT. In the future, diesel emissions regulations will get tougher and tougher, so the car companies will have to make greater efforts to get the engines through the tests. That means diesel cars will just get more and more expensive to make, sell and buy. The good news is that petrol engines, hybrids and plugin hybrids are getting better and better all the time, and will soon be able to match diesel (at least in the official figures) for economy and emissions.
