Are Corsa's safe? Someone said to me that some went on fire.
Hi Mairead,
Opel did indeed have a problem with some Zafira Bs and Corsa Ds catching fire due to faults with braking systems allowing water ingress, upsetting the electrics. The Corsa D, by the way, is the fourth-generation car built from 2006-2014, so is the only model of Corsa affected. However, there were a very small number of fires reported and Opel issued a recall to sort the problem. The spate of fires in Opels (and Vauxhalls) was mainly in 2016, so you are safe for the following reasons: one, the recall should have happened on affected Corsas by now and so there is no risk of fire; two, it is likely to have caught fire by now if it had had the problem, so the fact it hasn’t means it should be OK; and three, if your Corsa wasn’t built between 2006 and 2014, you should be perfectly fine.
