Hi Bernadine,
I'll answer the second question first - no. You do need to make sure that a car advertised as an MPV is actually a seven-seat version as there are five-seat versions of many of the popular models.
As for the first question, the best MPVs from a reliability point of view would be the Honda FR-V (which is actually a six-seater), Toyota Verso, Mazda5 and Kia Carens.
