Any way around high tax on an SUV?

Any way around high tax on an SUV?

Hi I am a retired farmer ( my daughter runs the farm now)I work part time in a forest nursery I would like to buy a Jeep but I am not prepared to pay €1000 plus for tax is there anyway around this

Our answer:

Hi Jimmy,

As a private individual - i.e. no longer a farmer or a business owner - you must pay the same rate of motor tax as anyone else on a vehicle registered as a passenger car. Given the information you provided, we would not expect you to have a reason to drive a commercial with commercial motor tax. Hence the only way to reduce your tax bill is choose a car with low CO2.
