They’re actually a lot better than you might think, although major items such as the gearbox and air suspension need careful checking before you buy. Any Discovery with a proper, full service history should be fine. Watch the oil level though – the V6 diesel can burn through oil, especially early in its life, and if it’s not topped up regularly then there can be major engine damage. The electronic handbrakes are fiddly too, and often give trouble, but aside from that, not too bad.
