The A4’s always been a solid buy and they’re reliable, but you do need to check a couple of things. Especially on an S line, check the suspension – it’s stiffer than a standard A4's so takes more of a pounding from our terrible roads. Check for misalignment or uneven tyre wear and listen carefully for knocks and clonks. If it’s one of the models with an electronic handbrake, make sure that engages and disengages as it should and poke and prod all the buttons to make sure the electrics are working OK. Oh, and make sure it has a proper, full service history.
