Am I liable for tax on a car I bought?
if i buy a car with lapsed tax , am i then liable for arrears, also if there is a recall alert for an airbag issue with a vehicle is it safe to drive, will it pass nct

Hi Alice,
You are not liable for back-tax on a car you bought. You are only responsible for the tax from the date you bought it.
On the other query: unless a warning light is showing in the dashboard for the airbag issue, an outstanding recall won't affect the NCT - they don't check for that. Saying that, I'd urge you to get it sorted as soon as possible with a dealer.
