It would not be normal for a private buyer to offer any guarantee or warranty on a used car. They are usually 'sold as seen' unless another agreement is made between the buyer and seller. In most cases, the buyer is taking the chance. If, however, the buyer specifically asks about an issue and the seller lies about it and then the issue is there, that's a different situation entirely.
