Advice on importing a Lexus...

Dear sir and madam I am thinking about buy a pre owned Lexus IS or GS(year from 2016)from north Ireland main dealer. What is your advice for me? And how to register the car in Dublin after buying? Do I have to pay tax in Dublin after buying? How about the insurance then? Thanks Kind regards James

Our answer:

Hi James,

The Lexus models you’re looking at are fine, albeit we’ve never got on with the company’s attempts at infotainment control and the CVT-equipped hybrid drivetrains can occasionally be noisily frustrating, but they’re beautifully built, stylish and well-equipped cars that can be frugal. To import a car from the UK, you will need to pay Vehicle Registration Tax (VRT), which is a percentage proportion of the vehicle’s Open Market Selling Price (OMSP) that is set according to its CO2 emissions rating. This guide tells you how to go about change of ownership in Ireland, and this one gives you a few tips on how to save on your car insurance. Good luck with the purchase.
