Would you recommend a hybrid for me?

I currently drive a 2010 Vauxhall insignia 2 litre diesel.Great car with great road holding.I do a lot of mileage on motorways so need to change her as very high mileage. With all the negative talk on diesel at the moment would you recommend I change to a hybrid and if so what.Or should I just get the same again until they figure out the diesel issue. Many thanks Majella

Our answer:

Hi Majella,

Yes, a hybrid is definitely a good option. The latest Toyota Prius can easily crack 60mpg on the motorway, which is hugely impressive, but it perhaps doesn’t have the handling and steering precision you’re looking for. Another good option might be a Volkswagen Passat or Skoda Superb with the excellent 1.4-litre 150hp turbo petrol engine, which can manage diesel-like economy on a longer run. You could also consider a plugin-hybrid such as a Passat GTE or a BMW 330e, but they’re expensive and economy will drop to around 40-45mpg on a longer run.
