Would a classic make a wise investment?

Would a classic make a wise investment?

Hi Shane, I have just retired and have a had a lifelong interest in all makes of cars. I have a bit of spare cash available, and with the returns on investments so poor at the moment, I was wondering if an investment in a classic or vintage car at the moment would be a wise investment, as a hobby with some security, and a low risk of loss. Thanks.

Our answer:

Hi Patrick,

Well, as always we’d suggest that you engage the services of a professional financial advisor before making any significant investments, but it’s true that the classic car market is especially buoyant at the moment, although there has been a slight downturn at the very top-end of the market. There are some makes and models that are pretty solid investments, including pretty much any Mercedes-Benz SL, early Porsche 911s (especially Rs and RSR models) and most Ferraris, although you’d really want to have some specialist advice on your side before dipping into the Ferrari market.
