Worth investing in a 2013 Superb?

Hi, I'm looking at a 2013 Skoda Superb 1.6 (72,000 miles/ 115,870 km). before I go committing every red cent I have, are there any known issues with these cars? anything I should be looking out for!? Many thanks, Quentin

Our answer:

Hi Quentin,

Generally speaking, the second generation Superb is a hugely reliable car, but there are a few issues to watch for. First, be very wary of any that have been used as taxis, as they’ll have had a very hard life. The complicated split tailgate (which allows it to be opened as a hatchback or a saloon) can develop problems and is very expensive to fix, so make sure that it’s working properly. The mirror-mounted indicator repeaters often let in water, too, and you’ll need to check to see if a previous owners has (illegally) removed the diesel particulate filter. The drainage channels under the bonnet can clog and leak water into the footwells, while the leather seat option seems to get very worn looking very easily. If it has the DSG automatic gearbox, make sure that it has had its major service every 65,000km. Oh, and check the tyres carefully — Superbs always seem to eat tyres.
