Ask a Question here: After 3 years we will be moving back to Ireland in 4 to 5 months and will need 2 cars: 1) family car, preferably a 7 seater and 2) a 4 door business car mainly for daily commute. Our budget 2 the 2 cars is about 20K euro. So far I have been looking at for example a CX90 and a 3-series but am open for your advice. Also is there seasonality? In other words will there be a month where typically supply is bigger that others?
Hi Wouter,
Yes, there is a little seasonality. If you buy second hand in January or July, the rush for new registrations does create a bit of used oversupply, but to be honest it's not that big a deal.
As for the cars, the Volvo XC90 is a fab family choice, but assuming a €10k-each budget split you'll have to buy a 2007 or 2006 model. Make utterly certain it has a gilt-edged service history and if it's a 4WD model check to make sure the centre clutch hasn't burned itself out.
As for a saloon, €10k gets you a broad choice. Audi A4? Merc C-Class? Lexus IS? All are good and solidly reliable choices although 'downgrading' to such as a Volkswagen Jetta will get you a younger car.
