Should I go petrol for my Octavia?

Hi I'm considering buying an Octavia basically in the nearly new bracket 2017. Many mechanics I've spoken to are saying diesel is dying out go for petrol I do approx 35000kms per year and I'm concerned about going back to petrol for fuel economy. I don't want to make the mistake and regret it. I've had serious issues with similar diesel cars in the past but still very wary of going back to petrol and getting stuck with it. Any advice?

Our answer:

Hi Clare,

With your mileage, and given that there was no swoop by the government on diesel cars in the Budget, I’d say you’re OK for now with a diesel. The 1.6 TDI is an excellent engine and very economical on those long runs. That said, it’s worth looking at the 1.0 TSI petrol - it’s very economical, too, and smooth.
