Is PCP a good way to go

Our answer:

Hi Sylvia,

Sorry to be a bit vague, but whether or not a PCP is right for you depends on what your budget is like and how you long you like to keep a car for. If you are happy coming back in three years' time to trade in for another new car, and you don't mind mileage and condition limits as part of the contract, then PCP is ideal.

If you want to hang on to the car longer, or if you don't want your mileage to be restricted, or if you have kids that are going to destroy the car from the inside, then it's less good and you might be better off with a loan or a traditional hire purchase deal.

The thing to keep in mind at all times is that PCP isn't there to helpfully reduce your monthly repayments - it does that in order to tempt you into a system that, essentially, means you're coming back in three years for another new car.
