I would stay away from the cash for cars offers, and definitely don’t phone any of the mobile numbers stuck on signs at random corners. Go for a reputable firm such as Kelly Car Dismantlers in Meath, or Auto Dismantlers Ltd in Cork. Or, for that matter, seeing as it’s a Golf, have a word with your local VW dealer. VW currently has a scrappage scheme in place that actually does scrap the cars, and while you may or may not be interested in buying a new car and getting a last bit of value out of your old Golf, they’d at the very least point you in the direction of the dismantling company handling the scheme for them, which will be fully above board and able to provide a cert of destruction.
